A God-centered prayer

READ: Daniel 9,10; Proverbs; 2 Peter 2

SCRIPTURE: Daniel 9: 17 “Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary.
18 Give ear, our God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation of the city that bears your Name. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.
19 Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”

OBSERVATION: We see many people are reluctant to take responsibility for the mistakes or misdeeds they have committed. Instead, they would blame others or justify themselves. If someone went through a tough time, or imprisonment, or was taken away from home for the things she or he never did, it would lead to a negative perception of people and grudge against them. But, Daniel was a different man of God. He was deported to Babylon at the age of 14 in 603 BC. “In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes” (538 BC), he was more than  80 years old. At that time, as he read the Scriptures from the book of Jeremiah, he understood that the exile would last only for 70 years. By calculation, the Jews’ exile will come to an end soon. Daniel’s response to knowing the soon ending of deportation was that he turned to the Lord and prayed to him for his people and restoration.

Daniel began to pray with fasting when he read the words of Prophet Jeremiah, who warned people for their disobedience to the Lord and their sins many years ago. In his prayer (Dan.9:4-20), Daniel never boasted of himself and blamed others for what had happened to the Lord’s people. Instead, he confessed the sins of people against God and his words. He identified himself with his people and said, “we have sinned,” “We have been wicked,” “we have not listened,” and so on. Although he lived a righteous life before God, he confessed people’s sins as his sin. As Daniel confessed and prayed for his people, he remembered God’s righteousness and mercies to save his people. He remembered that the same God who brought the rebellious Israelites from Egypt was faithful to help his people even in exile. Daniel kept God at the center of his prayer. As he pleaded for God’s mercies to his people, he prayed, “We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy.” Daniel said of God’s character and reminded him that the desolate city bears God’s name. He was focused on God and expressed his urgency through short phrases, “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act!” God always answers such persistent prayers that centered on him. In verse 20, we read that God answered Daniel even before he finished his prayer.

Such a time as this, when people are looking for hope, remedy, and peace, we can find answers to all the pressing questions of our time when we read the Bible. The Word of God leads us to pray for our present scenario by humbling ourselves and focusing on God alone. When we seek God and pray to him, he hears our prayers, forgives us, and heals our nation (2 Chro.7:14). Are we ready to humble ourselves before God and pray for our nation? Let us keep God the center of our lives and prayers.

APPLICATION:  The Word of God is given to me to know God’s will and his plans for my life. As I read the bible, it prompts me to confess my weaknesses and pray for God’s help to overcome my frailties. Jesus, in his model prayer, has taught me how to keep God as the focus of my prayer (Mt.6:9-13). My life and prayer should be God-oriented and God-centered.

PRAYER:  Father God, we have come before you trusting your righteousness, mercy, and grace. Lord, forgive our sins and make us whole. During this uncertain time, thank you for the hope you give us through your words. “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay,” for we are your people. Amen.

கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவத்தை நேரில் கண்ட சாட்சிகள்

வாசிக்க: தானியேல் 7,8; சங்கீதம் 150; 2 பேதுரு 1

வேத வசனம்:  2 பேதுரு 1: 16. நாங்கள் தந்திரமான கட்டுக்கதைகளைப் பின்பற்றினவர்களாக அல்ல, அவருடைய மகத்துவத்தைக் கண்ணாரக் கண்டவர்களாகவே நம்முடைய கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் வல்லமையையும் வருகையையும் உங்களுக்கு அறிவித்தோம்.

கவனித்தல்: அனேகர், குறிப்பாக கடவுள் இல்லை என மறுக்கும் நாத்திகர்கள், மதம் என்பது உண்மைக்குப் புறம்பான ஒரு கட்டுக்கதை என  நினைக்கின்றனர். கிறிஸ்தவமும் இதற்கு விதிவிலக்கு அல்ல என்று அவர்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள். தளர்வான கொள்கைகளை உடைய கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் சிலரும் வேதாகம அற்புதங்களை சந்தேகிப்பது வருந்தத்தக்கது ஆகும். இங்கே, விசுவாசிகளுக்கு நினைவுபடுத்த விரும்பியவைகளைக் குறித்து அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பேதுரு கூறுகிறார். தான் சீக்கிரத்தில் மரித்துப் போய்விடுவோம் என்பதை அவர் அறிந்திருந்தார். ஆகவே, அவர் சுவிசேஷத்தின் வரலாற்று உண்மைக்கு ஆதாரமாக இரண்டு முக்கியமான கருத்துகளை முன்னிலைப்படுத்தி பேசுகிறார் (2 பேதுரு 1:16-21). பேதுரு தன் விசுவாசமானது ”தந்திரமான கட்டுக்கதைகள்” மீது கட்டப்பட்டது அல்ல என்று சாட்சி பகருகிறார். கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவத்தை கண்ணாரக் கண்டவர்களில் தானும் ஒருவர் என்று அவர் சொல்கிறார். நற்செய்தி சொல்லும் செய்தியானது கற்பனைக் கதையோ அல்லது நம்பமுடியாத கட்டுக்கதையோ அல்ல என்று அவர் கூறுகிறார். இயேசு அனேக அற்புதங்களைச் செய்த போது பேதுரு அவருடன் இருந்தார்; அவர் இயேசுவின் சிலுவை மரணம் மற்றும் உயிர்த்தெழுதலுக்கு சாட்சியாக இருந்தார். இயேசுவின் ஊழியம் மற்றும் வாழ்க்கையைப் பார்த்த நேரடி சாட்சிகளில் ஒருவராக பேதுரு இருந்தார். பேதுரு இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய சுவிசேஷத்தைப் பிரசங்கித்த போது, அவர் தான் கண்டதை, கேட்டதை, மற்றும் தன் வாழ்வில் அனுபவித்ததைப் பற்றி பகிர்ந்து கொண்டார். இயேசுவைக் கண்களால் கண்ட நேரடி சாட்சிகள் கிறிஸ்தவ விசுவாசத்தின் வரலாற்றுத் தன்மையை உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றனர். இயேசுவை விசுவாசிக்க மறுக்கும், கிறிஸ்தவ விசுவாசத்தை மனித கற்பனையில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட ஒரு கட்டுக்கதை அல்லது கற்பனைக்கதை என்று கருதுபவர்களுக்கு,  நற்செய்திக்கும், கிறிஸ்துவின் வருகைக்கும் ஆதரவான ஒரு வலிமையான சான்றை பேதுரு முன்வைக்கிறார்.

”அவருடைய மகத்துவத்தைக் கண்ணாரக் கண்டவர்களாகவே,” என்று பேதுரு சொல்லும்போது, அவர் குறிப்பாக இயேசு மறுரூபமானதைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார் (மத்.17:1-9; மாற்கு 9:2-7; லூக்கா 9:28-35).  இயேசு மறுரூபமான சம்பவம் தேவனுடைய குமாரனாகிய இயேசுவின் மகிமையை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறதாகவும், இயேசுவுடனே மோசேயும் எலியாவும் பேசுகிறவர்களாக காணப்பட்ட சம்பவமாகவும், இயேசு தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமான குமாரன் என்றும், நாம் அவருக்கு செவிகொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று பரலோகத்தில் இருந்து சொல்லப்பட்ட வார்த்தைகளை சீடர்கள் கேட்ட சம்பவமாகவும் இருந்தது. இயேசு உண்மையில் யார் என்பதை சீடர்கள் புரிந்து கொள்வதற்கு இயேசுவின் மறுரூப அனுபவம் உதவி செய்ததுமன்றி, அவருடைய தெய்வீக மகிமையைப் பற்றிய ஒரு முன்சுவையையும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தது.

 அதன் பின், பேதுரு தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையின் சாட்சி, அதன் நம்பகத்தன்மை, மற்றும் தெய்வீக மூலாதாரம் ஆகியவைகளைப் பார்க்க நம் கவனத்தை திருப்புகிறார்.  பேதுரு ஒரு கற்பனை அல்லது கட்டுக்கதையை விசுவாசிக்கவோ அல்லது பிரசங்கிக்கவோ இல்லை. மாறாக, அவர் தான் நேரில் கண்ட சாட்சியாக இருக்கும் சுவிசேஷத்தை விசுவாசித்துப் பிரசங்கித்தார். மேசியாவைப் பற்றிய தீர்க்கதரிசனங்கள் அனைத்தும் இயேசுவின் பிறப்பு, வாழ்க்கை, சிலுவை மரணம், மற்றும் உயிர்த்தெழுதலில் நிறைவேறுவதால் வேதாகமமானது நற்செய்தியின் உண்மைத் தன்மைக்கு சாட்சி பகருகிறது. கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவமானது அவரையும் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையையும் விசுவாசித்தவர்கள் மூலமாக பிரகாசித்து ஒளிர்ந்தது. நாம் பரிசுத்த ஆவியைப் பெறும்போது, இயேசுவே தேவனுடைய குமாரன் என்பதைச் சாட்சி பகர்வதற்கான பரலோக வல்லமையை நாமும் பெற்றுக் கொள்கிறோம். நம் மாற்றப்பட்ட வாழ்க்கையானது நம்மைச் சுற்றிலும் இருக்கிறவர்களுக்கு கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவத்தைப் பற்றி சாட்சி பகரும்.

பயன்பாடு:  இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் நற்செய்தி என்பது அவருடைய வாழ்க்கை, சிலுவை மரணம், மற்றும் உயிர்த்தெழுதலைப் பற்றிய வரலாற்று உண்மை ஆகும். பேதுரு, இயேசுவின் சீடர்கள், மற்றும் பலர் இயேசுவின் ஊழியத்தையும், அவருடைய அற்புதங்களையும் நேரடியாகப் பார்த்தார்கள். அவர்கள் யாவரும் “தேவனுடைய மகத்துவத்தைக் குறித்துப் பிரமித்தார்கள்” (லூக்கா 9:43). தேவ குமாரனாகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை நான் விசுவாசிக்கும்போது, அவர் தேவனுடைய மகிமையையும் நித்திய உண்மையையும் எனக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தி, என் வாழ்க்கையை மாற்றுகிறார். எனக்குள் இருக்கும் கிறிஸ்துவானவர் மகிமையின் நம்பிக்கையாக எனக்கு இருக்கிறார் (கொலோ.1:27). நான் இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவைப் பின்பற்றி, பரிசுத்த ஆவியினால் நிரப்பப்படும்போது, நான் கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவத்திற்கு சாட்சியாக இருக்க முடியும். நான் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவத்திற்கு சாட்சி.

ஜெபம்: தந்தையாகிய தெய்வமே, ”கிறிஸ்துவின் மகிமையான சுவிசேஷத்தின் ஒளி”யைப் பார்க்கும்படி நீர் என்னை பலப்படுத்தியதற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. இயேசுவே, உம் சீடராகவும் மனித வாழ்க்கையை மாற்றும் உம் வல்லமைக்கு சாட்சியாகவும் இருக்கும்படி நீர் என்னை அழைத்ததற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவரே, நீரின்றி என்னால் எதுவும் செய்ய இயலாது; என் இருதயத்தை உம் வல்லமையினாலும் தேவ வார்த்தையினாலும் நிரப்பி, கிறிஸ்துவின் மகத்துவத்திற்கு ஒரு உயிருள்ள சாட்சியாக வாழ எனக்கு உதவியருளும். ஆமென்.

Eyewitnesses of Christ’s majesty

READ: Daniel 7,8; Psalms 150; 2 Peter 1

SCRIPTURE: 2 Peter 1: 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

OBSERVATION:  Many people, especially atheists, think religion is a myth. They say Christianity is also not an exception to this. Sadly, some liberal Christians also doubt biblical miracles.  Here, Apostle Peter says about what he wanted to remind the believers. He knew that he would die soon. So, he highlights two crucial points as evidence for the historical truth of the Gospel (2 Peter 1:16-21). Peter testifies that his faith is not built or based on “cleverly devised stories.” He says that he is one among the eyewitnesses who saw Christ’s majesty. He tells the Gospel message is not an imaginative and unreliable story. Peter was with Jesus when he wrought many miracles; he witnessed Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Peter was an eyewitness to the life and ministry of Jesus. When Peter preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he shared what he saw, heard, and experienced in his life. Eyewitnesses’ testimony affirms the historicity of our Christian faith. For those who refused to believe Jesus and considered the Christian faith a myth or fable based on human imagination, Peter presents strong evidence for the Gospel and the coming of the Lord Jesus.

When Peter says, “we were eyewitnesses of his majesty,” he particularly refers to Jesus’ transfiguration (Mt.17:1-9; Mk.9:2-7; Lk.9:28-35), which was the revelation of the glory of the Son of God, where Moses and Elijah were seen and talked with Jesus; his disciples heard a voice from heaven that said Jesus is God’s beloved Son and we must listen to him. The transfiguration of Jesus helped the disciples to understand who Jesus was/is and gave them a foretaste of his divine glory. It gave them confidence in the authority of Jesus and his words. Then, Peter draws our attention to the testimony and reliability of the Scripture and its divine origin. Peter did not believe and preach any myth or fable, but it was the Gospel to which he was an eyewitness. The Scripture gives a reliable testimony to the truthfulness of the Gospel as the prophecies concerning the Messiah were fulfilled in the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Christ’s majesty is shining through the life of those who believe him and God’s word. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we too receive power from heaven to testify that Jesus is truly the Son of God. Our transformed life would testify about Christ’s majesty to the people around us.  

APPLICATION:  The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the historical truth of his life, crucifixion, and resurrection. Peter, Jesus’ disciples, and many other people saw the ministry of Jesus and his miracles. “They were all amazed at the greatness of God” (Luke 9:43). When I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, he reveals God’s glory and eternal truth and transforms my life. Christ in me is “the hope of glory” (Col.1:27). When I follow Christ and be filled with the Holy Spirit, I can be a witness to Christ’s majesty.

PRAYER:  Father God, thank you for enabling me to “see the light of the Gospel that displays the glory of Christ.” Jesus, thank you for your call to be your disciple and be a witness to your power to transform human lives. Holy Spirit, I can do nothing without you; fill my heart with your power and God’s word to be a living testimony of Christ’s majesty. Amen.

கடினமான தருணங்களில் ஜெபித்தல்

வாசிக்க: தானியேல் 5,6; சங்கீதம் 149; 1 பேதுரு 5

வேத வசனம்:  தானியேல் 6: 10. தானியேலோவென்றால், அந்தப் பத்திரத்துக்குக் கையெழுத்து வைக்கப்பட்டதென்று அறிந்தபோதிலும், தன் வீட்டுக்குள்ளேபோய், தன் மேல் அறையிலே எருசலேமுக்கு நேராக பலகணிகள் திறந்திருக்க, அங்கே தான் முன் செய்துவந்தபடியே, தினம் மூன்று வேளையும் தன் தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக முழங்காற்படியிட்டு ஜெபம்பண்ணி, ஸ்தோத்திரம் செலுத்தினான்.

கவனித்தல்: வாழ்க்கையில் எல்லாம் நன்றாக இருக்கும்போது, நாம் வழக்கமாக செய்யும் வேலைகளை குறைவின்றி செய்வது எளிதானதாக இருக்கும். ஆயினும், ஒரு பிரச்சனை வரும்போது அப்படி செய்வது சவாலானதாக மாறுகிறது. ஒரு காரியத்தை நாம் தொடர்ந்து செய்யும்போது, அது பழக்கமாக மாறிவிடுகிறது. அதன்பின், அந்த குறிப்பிட்ட காரியத்தை எந்த இடத்திலும், எந்த நேரத்திலும் செய்வது எளிதானதாக இருக்கும். தானியேல் 6:10 இல், தானியேலின் வழக்கமான ஜெபப் பழக்கத்தைப் பற்றி நாம் வாசிக்கிறோம். தானியேல் 5:29-30 இல் நாம் வாசிப்பது போல, பாபிலோன் “ராஜ்யத்திலே அவன் மூன்றாம் அதிகாரி”யாக தானியேல் இருந்தான். தேசாதிபதிகள் அனைவரும் தானியேலின் நேர்மை மற்றும் வேலையில் உண்மையுள்ளவனாக இருந்ததை அறிந்திருந்தார்கள்.  அவனிடத்திலே அவர்களால் எந்த குற்றத்தையும் கண்டுபிடிக்க இயலவில்லை (வ.4). தானியேல் அந்த சமயத்தில் சுமர் 80 வயது நிறைந்தவனாக இருந்தான் என வேத அறிஞர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர். அப்படியானால், தாவீது சுமார் 65 ஆண்டுகள் பாபிலோனில் வேலை செய்திருக்கிறான். இங்கே தேசாதிபதிகள் தானியேலுக்கு எதிராக அவனை பதவியில் இருந்து அகற்றுவதற்காக அவனைச் சிக்க வைக்க ஒரு அரச சட்டத்தைக் கொண்டு வந்தார்கள். நம்மை சிக்கவைப்பதற்காக அல்லது அழிப்பதற்காக ஒரு சட்டம் அமல் செய்யப்பட்டால், நாம் எப்படி நடந்துகொள்வோம்? நாம் நம்மை ஒளித்துக் கொண்டு அல்லது நம் செயல்களை மற்றவர்கள் பார்க்காதபடி மறைத்துக் கொண்டு சட்டத்தின் பிடியில் சிக்கிக்கொள்ளாதபடி இருக்க முயற்சி செய்வோம். தானியேலைப் பொறுத்தவரையில், அந்தப் புதிய சட்டமானது தானியேலின் பக்தியுள்ள ஜெப வாழ்வில் எந்த மாற்றத்தையும் உண்டு பண்ண வில்லை.

அந்த புதிய சட்டத்திற்கு தானியேல் கொடுத்த பதில் என்னவெனில், “தன் வீட்டுக்குள்ளேபோய், தன் மேல் அறையிலே எருசலேமுக்கு நேராக பலகணிகள் திறந்திருக்க,” ஜெபித்தான். அதன் பின்விளைவுகளை அறிந்திருந்த போதிலும், தன் ஜெப வாழ்க்கையை மறைத்து வைக்க அவன் முயற்சி செய்யவில்லை.  அனுதினமும் மூன்றுவேளை முழங்கால் படியிட்டு ஜெபிக்கும் பழக்கத்தை உடையவனாக தானியேல் இருந்தான். தானியேல் ஜெபித்தபோது, அவன் தேவனுக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் செலுத்தினான் என வாசிக்கிறோம். அதுவே அவனுடைய ஜெப வாழ்வின் இரகசியம். நம்மில் பலர் ஜெபிக்கும்போது, நம் தேவைகளையே சொல்லிச் சொல்லி தேவனிடம் ஜெபிக்கிறோம். நம் வாழ்வில் நாம் சந்திக்கிற பிரச்சனைகளுக்காக நாம் தேவனுக்கு நன்றி சொல்கிறோமா? ஜெபிக்கும் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் எல்லாவற்றிலும் எப்பொழுதும் தேவனுக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் செலுத்துவார்கள். ஏனெனில், அவர்கள் தேவனுடைய மாட்சிமையான ஆளுகை அதிகாரத்தை விசுவாசிக்கிறார்கள். தானியேலின் எதிர்கள் தங்கள் திட்டத்தில் வெற்றி பெற்றதாக நினைத்து, தானியேலைக் கொல்ல விரைந்தார்கள்.  ராஜாவாகிய தரியு கூட தானியேலைக் காப்பாற்ற முடியவில்லை. ஆயினும், இந்தக் கதையானது இத்துடன் முடிந்து விடவில்லை.

தானியேலை சிங்கங்களின் வாய்க்கு இரையாகாமல் தேவன் பாதுகாத்தார். அதன்பின் ராஜாவாகிய தரியு தன் ஆளுகையின் கீழ் உள்ள அனைவருக்கும் மாற்றப்பட முடியாத ஒரு சட்டத்தை இயற்றி, ”யாவரும் தானியேலின் தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக நடுங்கிப் பயப்படவேண்டுமென்று என்னாலே தீர்மானம்பண்ணப்படுகிறது” என்று உத்தரவு பிறப்பித்தார் (வ.26). தேவன் சூழ்நிலையையும் அந்த 120 தேசாதிபதிகளின் திட்டத்தையும்  மாற்றினார். அவர்கள் அழிந்து போனார்கள். ”தேவன் இன்னமும் சிங்காசனத்தில் வீற்றிருக்கிறார், நாம் அவருடைய பாதப்படியில் நாம் இருக்கிறோம். அவருக்கும் நமக்கும் இடையில் உள்ள தூரம் முழங்காலளவு தூரமே” என ஜிம் எலியட் என்ற மிஷனெரி கூறுகிறார். நாம் சோர்ந்து போகாமல் எப்பொழுதும் ஜெபம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என நம் ஆண்டவராகிஅய் இயேசு நமக்குப் போதித்திருக்கிறார் (லூக்கா 18:1). ”இடைவிடாமல் ஜெபம்பண்ணுங்கள்” என்று வேதம் நம்மை உற்சாகப்படுத்துகிறது (1தெச.5:17). நம் ஜெபங்கள் வல்லமையுள்ளவையாகவும் பயனுள்ளதாகவும் இருக்கின்றன. காரியங்கள் மிகவும் மோசமாகும்போது, நாம் ஜெபத்தில் தேவனிடம் சென்று, அவரில் நாம் நம்பிக்கை கண்டு கொள்ளலாம். ஏனெனில், ”அவர் ஜீவனுள்ள தேவன், அவர் என்றென்றைக்கும் நிலைத்திருக்கிறவர்; அவருடைய ராஜ்யம் அழியாதது; அவருடைய கர்த்தத்துவம் முடிவுபரியந்தமும் நிற்கும்” (தானி.6:26).

பயன்பாடு:  என் ஜெபங்களுக்கு பதிலளிக்கிற தேவனை நான் ஆராதிக்கிறேன். அவர் என் தேவைகளையும் என் இருதயத்தையும் அறிந்திருக்கிறார். நான் கடினமான சூழ்நிலைகளை எதிர்கொள்ளும்போதும் கூட ஜெபிக்கும்படி வேதம் எனக்கு போதிக்கிறது. நான் ஜெபிக்கும்போது, தேவனை சார்ந்து நான் இருப்பதையும், அவருடைய கட்டுப்பாட்டின் கீழ் அனைத்தும் இருக்கிறது என்ற என் விசுவாசத்தையும் நான் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறேன்.  சில வேளைகளில் நான் ஜெபித்து முடித்ததும் உடனடி மாற்றங்களை நான் காணாமல் போகலாம். ஆனால் எந்த சூழ்நிலையையும் எதிர்கொள்கிறதற்கும், எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் தேவனை நம்புவதற்கும் தேவையான வலிமையை ஜெபம் எனக்குத் தருகிறது. அரசாங்கங்கள், ஆட்சியாளர்கள் மாறலாம்; “கர்த்தருடைய வசனமோ என்றென்றைக்கும் நிலைத்திருக்கும்” (1 பேதுரு 1:25). தேவன் ஒருபோதும் மாறுவதில்லை. தேவனையும் அவருடைய வல்லமையையும் நம்பி, நான் ஜெபத்தில் அவரிடம் சென்று, எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் நான் அவரை ஸ்தோத்தரிக்க முடியும்.

ஜெபம்: அப்பா பிதாவே, என் ஜெபங்கள் எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் பதில் தருகிறதற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. இயேசுவே, உம் ஜெப முன்மாதிரியைப் பின்பற்ற எனக்கு உதவியருளும். பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவரே, என் பலவீனங்களில் எனக்கு உதவி செய்து, “வாக்குக்கடங்காத பெருமூச்சுகளோடு” எனக்காக வேண்டுதல் செய்கிறதற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. என் தேவனே, என் வாழ்க்கையை உம் கரங்களில் அர்ப்பணிக்கிறேன். உம் விருப்பப்படி, உம் சித்தத்தின்படி எனக்கு செய்தருளும். இயேசுவின் நாமத்தில், ஜெபம் கேளும் நல்ல பிதாவே. ஆமென்.

Praying in tough times

READ: Daniel 5,6; Psalms 149; 1 Peter 5

SCRIPTURE: Daniel 6: 10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

OBSERVATION: When everything goes well, we find it easier to do our regular works without any lack. However, it becomes challenging when a crisis comes. We know that when we do something regularly, it becomes a habit. Then it would be easy to do that particular thing anywhere and anytime. In Dan.6:10, we read about Daniel’s praying habit. As we read in Daniel 5: 29-30, Daniel was “the third highest ruler in the kingdom” of Babylonia. Every satrap knew that Daniel was a man of integrity and diligent in his works. They could find “no corruption in him” (v.4).  Bible experts say that Daniel was about 80 years at this time. If so, Daniel served in Babylon for almost 65 years. Here, the satraps tried to ensnare Daniel with the royal decree specifically aimed at him and remove him from his position. How will we behave if a particular law is enacted to trap and destroy us! We may try to hide ourselves or our activities to escape from being caught up. For Daniel, the new law made no changes in his godly and prayer life.

Daniel’s response to the enactment of the new law was, “he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem” and prayed.  Despite knowing the outcomes, he did nothing to hide his prayer life. Daniel had the habit of praying regularly on his knees three times a day. When Daniel prayed, he gave thanks to God. It is the secret of his prayer life. Many of us, when we pray, we always ask God our needs. Do we thank God for the crises we face in our lives? Praying Christians will always thank God for everything, for they believe in the sovereignty of God. Daniel’s enemies thought they were successful in their plan and hurried to execute it. Even King Darius could do nothing to save Daniel. Nevertheless the story does not end here.

God protected Daniel from the mouths of lions, and then King Darius issued an irrevocable decree to all the people under his rule that they “must fear and reverence the God of Daniel” (v.26). God changed the situation, and all the 120 satraps’s plans and their lives perished. Jim Eliot said, “God is still on His throne, we’re still His footstool, and there’s only a knee’s distance between!” Our Lord Jesus teaches that we “should always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1). The Bible encourages us to “pray continually” (1 Thes.5:17). Our prayers are powerful and effective. When things become worst and hard to pray, we can still go to God in prayer and find hope in him.  “For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end” (Dan.6:26).

APPLICATION: I worship the God who answers my prayers. He knows my needs and my heart. The bible teaches me to pray to God even when I face difficult times. When I pray, I express my dependency on God and faith in him that everything is under his control. Sometimes I may not see immediate changes after praying, but it gives me the strength to face any situation and trust God for everything. Governments and rulers will come and go, “but the word of the Lord endures forever” (1 Pet.1:25). God never changes. Trusting God and his power, I can go to him in prayer and “give thanks in all circumstances.”

PRAYER: Abba Father, thank you for answering all my prayers. Jesus, help me to follow your example of prayer. Holy Spirit, thank you for your help in my weaknesses and interceding for me “through wordless groans.” My God, I submit my life in your hands, do as you please, according to your will. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
