READ: Job 33,34; Psalms 48; Romans 10
SCRIPTURE: Romans 10: 9 If you
declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God
raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with
your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
OBSERVATION: “Jesus is Lord” is the shortest and the earliest
creed of the church. When a person confesses “Jesus is Lord,” he accepts Jesus’
human and divine nature, which was the foundation of the Apostle’s preaching in
the Early Church. To receive the salvation of God, one needs to believe in his
heart and must confess his faith. It is an outward expression of inward faith. When
we confess or speak about our faith in Jesus Christ, it should come from our
hearts. In the early Church, Christians publicly confessed their faith during
baptism. In Matthew 10:32,33, Jesus encourages us to acknowledge him before
people. However, there are countries and opposing environments where Christians
cannot openly profess their faith. They need our prayers. On the other hand, some
people do not want to disclose their Christian faith for social and selfish
reasons. A Christian leader says that such so-called secret believers become scared
of society, and eventually, they lose their faith in Jesus. There should be a
correlation between what we believe about Jesus in our hearts and what we
confess about him publicly. We must be honest in confessing and practicing our
faith in Jesus Christ. In 1 Cor.12:3, Apostle Paul says, “no one can say,
“Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.” When we confess, “Jesus is Lord,”
we say that we are witnesses to his death and resurrection. Do we allow Jesus
to be the Lord over every part of our lives?
APPLICATION: Jesus is the Lord of my life. It is by faith I am
justified, not by works. I receive God’s salvation by confessing my faith in
him. I should not be hesitant to acknowledge and express my faith in Jesus Christ.
The name of Jesus is above every name. Every tongue shall confess Jesus Christ
is the Lord. I am a witness to Jesus.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank you for your life and sacrifice
that opened the way for my salvation. Help me to exalt your name in my life and
confess my faith in you. Oh, Holy Spirit, strengthen me to help people
understand “Jesus is Lord” and to be a witness for Jesus. Amen.
