Finding the secrets of God

READ: 1 Chronicles 17, 18; Proverbs 25; John 20: 19-31

SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 25: 2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings.

OBSERVATION: Many people think that God is transcendent and unknowable; they complain that he is least bothered about human affairs. So they refuse to believe in God. Here, Solomon writes, “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter.” Does God conceal things from humans? We may say “yes” and “no.” The Bible says that “no one can fathom,” God’s greatness and understanding (Ps.145:3; Is.40:28). However, God does not like to remain as an unknown divine to human beings. “Since the creation of the world,” God reveals himself in various ways; we cannot say any excuse (Ps.19:1; Rom.1:20). Of course, God conceals certain things from us, especially matters related to our future (Deut.29:29). However, it is for our good that he hides those things. Jesus said, “For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open” (Luke.8:17). The nature of truth is that it comes to light; it is available to all who search it.

When a king searches out the truth and administers justice, it is glory for him (1 Kings 3:16-28). The Bible says that we Christians are “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession,” and “a kingdom and priests” (1 Pet.2: 9; Rev.1:6). Above all, we are God’s children. Jesus has taught us to ask, seek, and knock (Mt.7:7,8; Lk.11:9,10). When we seek God with all our heart, we can find him (Jer.29:13). God conceals a matter so that we may know its value when we find it.

APPLICATION: My God reveals himself through his creation and his word. As a diligent follower of Jesus, I need to search out what God has stored for me. When I seek God with all my heart, he helps me to find him. As a child of God, I experience great joy when I find the hidden treasures of God. 

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for revealing yourself through your only Son, Jesus Christ. Loving Lord, help me to find your will for my life and to live accordingly. Amen.
