READ: 1 Chronicles 9, 10; Proverbs 21; John 18: 25-40
SCRIPTURE: Proverbs 21: 30 There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.
31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.
OBSERVATION: In the history of the world, many powerful emperors, great wise people, and highly influential leaders tried their best to nullify God’s plan. Yet, they all—Pharaoh of Egypt, Absalom’s counselor Ahithophel, Benhadad the King of Syria, Ahab the King of Israel, Sennacherib the king of Assyria, Nebuchadnezzar the King of Babylonian Empire, Herod and so on—miserably failed. The Bible tells many such stories of men and women who could not succeed against God’s plan. These stories illustrate, people may come and go, but the Lord’s plan will continue to succeed even after them. People may devise many plans; “but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Pro.19:21). Because, God sovereigns over everything, every nation. As Daniel said to the Babylonian King, “the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes” (Dan.4:25). Therefore, no weapon forged against God will not prevail.
People put their trust in their army strength or their strategy to get victories. They boast about their powers. However, the Bible clearly warns us against keeping our trust in such things. In Psalm 20, David contrasts the difference between putting our trust in God and worldly strengths and says, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm” (Ps.20:7,8). Our victory will not come from “the east or the west or from the desert” (Ps.75:6); it comes from the Lord (Ps.3:8; Pro.21:31). Therefore, we can be confident that no man can stop God’s plan for us. However, it is our responsibility to prepare ourselves for the battle by waiting on God. We need not worry about the great strength of the enemy, the devil. Because “the Lord of Hosts is with us” (Ps.46:7); All are under his feet.
APPLICATION: My God “changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others”(Dan.2:21). Regardless of the world rulers, he makes his plans succeed everywhere and gives victory to his people. The Lord sovereigns my life. I can always trust him. He helps me to stand against the challenges of my life and to taste victories. For wisdom and power belongs to the Lord.
PRAYER: Almighty God, in wisdom and power, there is none like you. You have control over everything. My life is in your hands. Nothing can stop your plan for my life. Help me to trust your wisdom and power, and to live according to your will. Amen.- Arputharaj Samuel
