தீமிதித்தலும் மற்றும் விசுவாசத்தில் நடப்பதும்

வேத வசனம்:  தானியேல் 3: 16. சாத்ராக், மேஷாக், ஆபேத்நேகோ என்பவர்கள் ராஜாவை நோக்கி: நேபுகாத்நேச்சாரே, இந்தக் காரியத்தைக்குறித்து உமக்கு உத்தரவு சொல்ல எங்களுக்கு அவசியமில்லை.
17. நாங்கள் ஆராதிக்கிற எங்கள் தேவன் எங்களைத் தப்புவிக்க வல்லவராயிருக்கிறார்; அவர் எரிகிற அக்கினிச்சூளைக்கும், ராஜாவாகிய உம்முடைய கைக்கும் நீங்கலாக்கி விடுவிப்பார்.
18. விடுவிக்காமற்போனாலும், நாங்கள் உம்முடைய தேவர்களுக்கு ஆராதனை செய்வதுமில்லை, நீர் நிறுத்தின பொற்சிலையைப் பணிந்துகொள்வதுமில்லை என்கிறது ராஜாவாகிய உமக்குத் தெரிந்திருக்கக்கடவது என்றார்கள்.

கவனித்தல்:  தமிழ்நாட்டில் குறிப்பிட்ட சில பெண் தெய்வங்களை வணங்குபவர்கள் தீமிதி திருவிழாவை வருடந்தோறும் நடத்துகிறார்கள். எவ்வித பாதிப்புமின்றி நெருப்புக்கனலின் மேல் நடப்பதற்கு தங்கள் தெய்வங்கள் உதவுவதாக பக்தர்கள் நம்புகின்றனர்.  தீமிதித்தல் பயம் மற்றும் நெருப்பு மீது வெற்றிபெறுகிற உணர்வையும், சுயநம்பிக்கை மற்றும் கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை பற்றிய உறுதியையும் பக்தர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பதாக மக்கள் நம்பினாலும், தீக்கதிர்களின் வெப்பத்தைக் கடத்தும் திறன் மிகக் குறைவு என்பதால், தீமிதித்தல் என்பது எவரும் செய்யக் கூடிய ஒன்றே என்று அறிவியலார் கூறுகின்றனர். தீ மிதிக்கும்போது பொதுவாக பக்தர்கள் வேகமாக நடப்பதை அல்லது ஓடுவதை நீங்கள் பார்த்திருக்கக் கூடும்.

சாத்ராக், மேஷாக், மற்றும் ஆபேத்நேகோ என்பவர்களின் கதை மிகவும் உற்சாகமளிக்கிறதும், தேவனை மட்டுமே ஆராதித்து உபத்திரவங்களுக்கு எதிராக தைரியமாக நிற்க மன உந்துதலைத் தருகிற ஒரு சம்பவம் ஆகும். இங்கு, ராஜாவின் கோபத்தின் நிமித்தமாக, அந்த அக்கினிச் சூளையானது ஏழுமடங்குஅதிக சூடாக்கும்படி உத்தரவிடப்பட்டது. மிகவும் வலிமை வாய்ந்த இராணுவ வீரர்கள் கூட அந்த அக்கினியின் உஷ்ணத்திற்கு தாக்குப்பிடித்து நிற்க முடியவில்லை; அந்த இளம் வாலிபர்களை நெருப்பில் போட அவர்கள் தூக்கிக் கொண்டு வந்தபோது, வலிமையான அந்த ராணுவ வீரர்கள் அனைவரும் மரித்துப் போயினர். ஆனால் சாத்ராக், மேஷாக், ஆபேத்நேகோ என்னும் அந்த மூன்று பேரோ, ”விடுதலையாய் அக்கினியின் நடுவிலே” உலாவிக் (நடந்து) கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவர்களுடனே நடந்து கொண்டிருந்த நான்காவது ஆளைக் கண்டபோது ராஜா ஆச்சரியமடைந்தான். அவர்கள் கட்டப்பட்டவர்களாக எரிகிற அக்கினியில் தூக்கி  போடப்பட்டார்கள். அவர்களைக் கட்டியிருந்த கயிறுகள் தான் அக்கினிச் சூளையில் அகற்றப்பட்டது; அவர்களோ அக்கினிச் சூளையில் நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தனர். ஆயினும், நெருப்பானது அவர்களுடைய சரீரத்திற்கோ, உடைகளுக்கோ எவ்வித சேதத்தையும் உண்டுபண்ணவில்லை.  இது எப்படி சாத்தியம்? என்று நாம் கேட்கக் கூடும். அவர்கள் தேவனோடே நடந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் அக்கினியில் இருந்து வெளியே வரும்படி, ராஜா அவர்களை கூப்பிட வேண்டியதாயிருந்தது.

 ராஜாவின் உணவினால் தங்களைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்திக் கொள்ளக் கூடாது என்று அவர்கள் எடுத்த தீர்மானத்தில் இருந்து அவர்களின் கதை துவங்குகிறது. இங்கே, ராஜாவுக்கு முன்பாக, அவர்கள் தங்கள் விசுவாசத்தையும், தேவன் மீதான அர்ப்பணிப்பையும் வெளிப்படுத்தினார்கள். ராஜாவாகிய நேபுகாத்நேச்சாருக்கு அ வர்கள் பயப்படாமல், தேவனுக்கு பயந்து, தேவனுடைய பிரமாணத்தைப் பின்பற்றுவதற்கு கவனமுள்ளவர்களாக அவர்கள் இருந்தார்கள். தேவன் விடுவிக்க வல்லவர் என்பதை அவர்கள் விசுவாசித்தார்கள்.  ”விடுவிக்காமற்போனாலும்…ராஜாவாகிய உமக்குத் தெரிந்திருக்கக்கடவது” என்று அவர்கள் சொன்ன போது, ராஜாவின் கடவுளுடைய சிலைக்கு முன்பதாக வணங்குவதற்குப் பதிலாக தேவனை ஆராதிப்பதற்கு அவர்கள் மிகவும் தீர்மானமுள்ளவர்களாக இருந்ததை  வெளிப்படுத்தினார்கள். ”அன்றியும் கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவுக்குள் தேவபக்தியாய் நடக்க மனதாயிருக்கிற யாவரும் துன்பப்படுவார்கள்” என்று பவுல் கூறுகிறார் (2 தீமோ.3:12; பிலி.1:29).  தன்னைப் பின்பற்றுகிறவர்கள் பிரச்சனையில்லாத ஒரு வாழ்க்கையை வாழ்வார்கள் என்று இயேசு ஒருபோதும் வாக்குக் கொடுக்கவில்லை.  “என்னிமித்தம் உங்களை நிந்தித்துத் துன்பப்படுத்தி, பலவித தீமையான மொழிகளையும் உங்கள்பேரில் பொய்யாய்ச் சொல்வார்களானால் பாக்கியவான்களாயிருப்பீர்கள்” என்று சொல்லி, “மகிழ்ந்து களிகூருங்கள்” என இயேசு நமக்குப் போதித்திருக்கிறார் (மத்.5:11-12). அப்போஸ்தலர்கள் தாங்கள் பட்ட பாடுகளில் மகிழ்ந்து, கிறிஸ்துவினிமித்தம் பாடுபட நேர்ந்தால் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்க வேண்டும் என சபைக்குப் போதித்தார்கள் (அப்.5:40-41; ரோமர் 5:3, 1 பேதுரு 4: 12-14). சாத்ராக், மேஷாக், ஆபேத்நேகோ என்பவர்கள் அக்கினியில் நடக்கும்போது தேவனைப் பாடித் துதித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள் என்று செப்துவஜிந்த் மொழிபெயர்ப்பில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.   “நீ அக்கினியில் நடக்கும்போது வேகாதிருப்பாய்; அக்கினிஜுவாலை உன்பேரில் பற்றாது” (ஏசாயா 43:1-2) என்று வாக்குப் பண்ணின தேவன், இம்மூவருடனே நடந்து கொண்டிருந்தார். அப்போது அந்த எரிகிற அக்கினிச் சூளையானது தேவனை ஆராதிக்கிற இடமாக மாறியது. நாம் விசுவாசத்தில் நடக்கும்போது, தேவன் நம்முடனே நடப்பதை நாம் காண முடியும்.

பயன்பாடு:  ”என்னையன்றி உனக்கு வேறே தேவர்கள் உண்டாயிருக்கவேண்டாம்” என்று தேவன் எனக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டிருக்கிறார் (யாத்.20:3). தேவனைத் தவிர வேறு எதையாகிலும் நான் வணங்கும்படி பிசாசானவன் என் முன் சோதனையைக் கொண்டு வரும்போது, நான் அவனுக்கு எதிர்த்து நின்று, ”அப்பாலே போ சாத்தானே; உன் தேவனாகிய கர்த்தரைப் பணிந்துகொண்டு, அவர் ஒருவருக்கே ஆராதனை செய்வாயாக என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறதே” என்று இயேசுவைப் போல நான் பேசவேண்டும் (மத்.4:10, உபா.6:13-15).  என் அன்பு, ஆராதனை, என் வாழ்க்கை மற்றும் என் அனைத்தும் தேவன் ஒருவருக்கே உரியவை; மற்ற எதுவும் எனக்கு முக்கியமானவை அல்ல. விசுவாசத்தினாலே, நான் தேவனுடன் நடந்துகொண்டிருக்கிறேன். நான் தேவனுடைய வழிகளில் நடப்பதற்கான பலத்தை தேவன் எனக்குத் தருகிறார். அவர் என்னை விடுவிக்க வல்லவராக இருக்கிறார்.

ஜெபம்:  தந்தையாகிய தெய்வமே, உமக்கும் உம் வார்த்தைக்கும் உண்மையுடன் இருக்கும்படி நினைவுபடுத்துகிறதற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. இயேசுவே, பிசாசை எதிர்த்து நிற்க உம் வல்லமையைத் தந்தருளும். பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவரே, என் விசுவாசம் சோதிக்கப்படும்போது, நீர் தரும் வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசவும் கிறிஸ்துவுக்காக நிற்கவும் உம் ஞானத்தையும் சக்தியையும் தந்தருளும். ஆமென்.

Day – 331

Firewalking and Faith walking

READ: Daniel 3,4; Psalms 148; 1 Peter 4

SCRIPTURE: Daniel 3: 16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.
17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.
18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

OBSERVATION: In Tamilnadu, a South Indian state, people who worship some goddesses conduct firewalking ceremonies every year. Devotees think that their gods help them to walk on the hot coals without any hurt. Although people believe firewalking gives a feeling of victory over fear and fire, confidence about their faith and themselves, scientists say that anyone can participate in firewalking because the embers have low thermal conductivity. You may have noticed that people run or take brisk walks during the firewalking.  

The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is an exciting and inspiring one that encourages us to worship only God and boldly stand against any trials. Here, because of the king’s anger, it was commanded that the fiery furnace should be seven times hotter than usual. Even the strongest soldiers could not endure the blazing fire of the furnace; they all died when they brought the three young men to throw in the fire. But these three men were “walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed.” The king was amazed and surprised by seeing the fourth man who walked with the three men. They were tied up before they were thrown into the blazing furnace. It seems only the cords that bound them were removed in the furnace. They were walking inside the burning furnace, yet the fire did not harm their body and even their dresses. We may ask, how is it possible! They walked with God. The king had to call them to come out of the fire.

Their story starts from their decision of not defiling themselves with the royal food. Here, in front of the king, they expressed their faith and devotion to God. They were not afraid of King Nebuchadnezzar but feared God and were devoted to following God’s law. They believed, “GOD IS ABLE” to deliver them. When they said, “But even if he does not, we want you to know,” they expressed their determination to serve God instead of bowing before the statue of the god of the king. Apostle Paul says, “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim.3:12, Phil.1:29). Jesus never promised that his followers would have a problem-free life. He has taught us “rejoice and be glad” by saying, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me” (Mt.5:11-12). Apostles rejoiced in their suffering and taught the church to be happy when facing any persecution for the sake of Christ (Acts 5:40,41; Rom.5:3; 1 Pet.4:12-14). Some translations say that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego praised God with songs while walking around in the fire. The God who promised, “when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze” (Isa 43:1, 2), was walking with these three men. Then, the fiery furnace became a place of worship. We can see God walking with us when we walk by faith.

APPLICATION: God commanded, “You shall have no other gods before[besides] me” (Exo.20:3). When the devil tempts to worship other than God, I must stand against him and say as Jesus said, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only” (Mt.4:10; Deut.6:13-15). My love, my worship, my life, and my all are for God alone; nothing else matters to me. By faith, I am walking with God. God gives me the strength to walk in his ways. He is able!

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for reminding me to be faithful to you and your words. Jesus, give me your power to resist the devil. Holy Spirit, give me your wisdom and power to speak your words and stand for Christ when my faith is tested. Amen.

தேவனுக்காக வாழ ஒரு தீர்மானம்

வாசிக்க: தானியேல் 1,2; சங்கீதம் 147; 1 பேதுரு 3

வேத வசனம்:  தானியேல் 1:  தானியேல் ராஜாவின் போஜனத்தினாலும் அவர் பானம்பண்ணும் திராட்சரசத்தினாலும் தன்னைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தலாகாதென்று, தன் இருதயத்தில் தீர்மானம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு, தன்னைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தாதபடி பிரதானிகளின் தலைவனிடத்தில் வேண்டிக்கொண்டான்.

கவனித்தல்: ”ஊரோடு ஒத்து வாழ்” என்று ஒரு பழமொழி சொல்கிறது. ஆங்கிலத்தில், “ரோமாபுரியில் இருக்கும்போது ரோமனை போல வாழு” என்று இதே பழமொழி வேறு வார்த்தைகளில் சொல்லப்படுகிறது. எவராகிலும் ஒருவர் வித்தியாசமாக வாழ முயற்சித்தால், மற்றவர்கள் அவரை குறை கூறி விமர்சித்து அல்லது எல்லாராலும் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளப்பட்ட நடைமுறையை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு பின்பற்றுமாறு அறிவுரை கூறுவார்கள். ஒருவர் தன் நம்பிக்கைகளில் உறுதியாக இருந்து மற்றவர்களில் இருந்து வேறுபட்டு செயல்பட்டால், அவரை வாழத்தெரியாத பைத்தியம் என்று மக்கள் சொல்வர். பாபிலோன் ராஜாவின் உணவினால் தன்னைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தாதபடிக்கு தானியேல் தீர்மானித்த போது, அவனைச் சுற்றி இருந்தவர்கள் தானியேலைப் பற்றி இவ்வாறு சொல்லி இருக்கக் கூடும்.  ராஜாவுக்கு வேலை செய்யும்படி மூன்று வருட பயிற்சிக்காக தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டவர்களில் தானியேலும் அவனுடைய நண்பர்களும் இருந்தனர். இந்த இளம் வாலிபர்கள் யூத அரச குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களாக இருந்த போதிலும், அவர்கள் நாடுகடத்தப்பட்டவர்களாகவும் எவ்வித அதிகாரமும் இல்லாதவர்களாகவும் இருந்தனர். ஆயினும், பாபிலோனின் ராஜாவாகிய நேபுகாத்நேச்சாரின் உணவினாலே, “தன்னைத் தீட்டுப்படுத்தாதபடி” தானியேல் தன் இருதயத்திலே தீர்மானம் எடுத்தான். இந்த தைரியமான முடிவு ஒரே ஒரு நாளுக்கானது அல்ல என்பதை நாம் பார்க்க வேண்டும். ஆகவே, ”பிரதானிகளின் தலைவனாகிய அஸ்பேனசின்” பயம் புரிந்து கொள்ளத்தக்கது ஆகும்.  ஆனால், ”தேவன் தானியேலுக்குப் பிரதானிகளின் தலைவனிடத்தில் தயவும் இரக்கமும் கிடைக்கும்படி செய்தார்” (வ.9). நாம் தேவனுக்காக தீர்மானங்களை எடுத்து, பயம் மற்றும் எதிர்காலத்தைப் பற்றிய கேள்விகளை எதிர்கொள்ளும்போது, தேவன் நம் தீர்மானங்களை வெற்றிகரமாக செய்து முடிக்க நமக்கு உதவுகிறார்.

உலகத்தினால் தங்களைக் கறைப்படுத்தாதபடிக்கு/தீட்டுப்படுத்தாதபடிக்கு தீர்மானமாக இருந்த பல தேவ மனிதர்களைப் பற்றி வேதாகமத்தில் நாம் வாசிக்கிறோம். அவர்கள் தங்கள் தேவபக்தியுள்ள வாழ்க்கையில் சமரசம் செய்து கொள்ள மறுத்து, தங்கள் வாழ்வின் சோதனைகள் எல்லாவற்றையும் ஜெயிப்பதற்கான வல்லமையையும் தேவ தயவையும் பெற்றுக் கொண்டார்கள். உதாரணமாக, ”நான் இத்தனை பெரிய பொல்லாங்குக்கு உடன்பட்டு, தேவனுக்கு விரோதமாய்ப் பாவம் செய்வது எப்படி” என்று யோசேப்பு சொன்னார் (ஆதி.39:9). எபிரேயர் 11ஆம் அதிகாரத்தில், ஒரு விசுவாச வீரர்களின் பட்டியலை நாம் காண்கிறோம். ”தேவனுக்காக தன்னை முற்றிலும் அர்ப்பணித்த ஒரு மனிதனைக் கொண்டு தேவன் என்ன செய்வார் என்பது இன்னும் இந்த உலகம் பார்க்கவில்லை” என்று டி.எல்.மூடியிடம் ஒரு நண்பர் சொன்னபோது, தேவனுக்காக அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு வாழ்க்கையை வாழும் மனிதனாக நான் இருப்பேன் என மூடி தீர்மானம் செய்து கொண்டார். டி.எல். மூடி மூலமாக  தேவன் என்னவெல்லாம் செய்தார் என்பதை வரலாறு நமக்குக் கூறுகிறது. நம் வாழ்வில், நம் கிறிஸ்தவ நெறிகளை சமரசம் செய்யப்பண்ணுகிற  பலவித சோதனைகள் மற்றும் சூழ்நிலைகளை நாம் எதிர்கொள்ள நேரிடலாம். அப்படிப்பட்ட சமயங்களில், வேத பண்டிதரும் போதகருமான ஜான் மெக்ஆர்தர் சொல்வது போல, “சமரசம் செய்து கொள்ளாமல், தேவன் அவர் விரும்புகிறபடி நீங்கள் வாழ உங்களை அவருடைய கட்டுப்பாட்டில் விட்டுக் கொடுத்து விடுங்கள். அது இந்த உலகத்தில் வாழ்கிற எவருடைய வாழ்க்கையைக் காட்டிலும் பத்து மடங்கு சிறப்பான வாழ்வாக இருக்கும்.” தானியேலையும் அவனுடைய நண்பர்களையும் தேவன் கைவிட்டுவிடவில்லை. அவர்கள் மற்ற எல்லா வாலிபர்களைக் காட்டிலும் முகத்தில்  அதிக களையுள்ளவர்களாகவும் சரீர புஷ்டியுள்ளவர்களாகவும் இருந்தார்கள் (தானி.1:15). நாம் இந்த உலகத்திற்கு ஒத்த வேஷந்தரிக்கக் கூடாது (ரோமர் 12:2). நாம் தேவனையும், அவருடைய வார்த்தையையும் கனப்படுத்துவதற்கு ஒரு தீர்மானம் எடுக்கும்போது, அதைச் செய்வதற்கான பலத்தை அவர் நமக்குத் தருகிறார். ”மனுஷரால் கூடாதவைகள் தேவனால் கூடும்” என்று இயேசு சொல்கிறார் (லூக்கா 18:27).

பயன்பாடு:  நான் தேவனுக்காக, எதிர்ப்புகள் இருக்கும் இடத்திலும் தேவபக்தியுள்ள ஒருவாழ்க்கையை வாழ முடியும்.   உலகத்தில் இருப்பவனிலும் எனக்குள் இருப்பவர் மிகவும் பெரியவர் (1யோவான் 4:4). நான் கிறிஸ்துவிலும், அவருடைய வார்த்தைகள் எனக்குள்ளும் இருக்கும்போது, நான் கனிகொடுக்கும்படி அவர் என்னைப் பலப்படுத்துகிறார் (யோவான் 15:7-8). உலகத்திலிருந்து வரும் சோதனைகளை ஜெயிக்க பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர் எனக்கு வல்லமையைத் தருகிறார் (கலா.5:16).  ”நான் இப்பொழுது மாம்சத்தில் பிழைத்திருக்கிறதோ, என்னில் அன்புகூர்ந்து எனக்காகத் தம்மைத்தாமே ஒப்புக்கொடுத்த தேவனுடைய குமாரனைப்பற்றும் விசுவாசத்தினாலே பிழைத்திருக்கிறேன்” (கலா.2:20).

 ஜெபம்: தந்தையாகிய தெய்வமே, உமக்காக வாழ்வதற்கு நீர் தருகிற கிருபை மற்றும் வல்லமைக்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. இயேசுவே, எங்களுக்காக நீர் உலகத்தை ஜெயித்தடஹ்ற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவரே, கிறிஸ்துவின் சாட்சியாக எல்லா இடங்களிலும் எல்லா நாட்களிலும் வாழ்வதற்கு உம் வல்லமையால் என்னை நிரப்பியருளும். ஆமென்.

Day – 330

A Godly determination

READ: Daniel 1,2; Psalms 147; 1 Peter 3

SCRIPTURE: Daniel 1: 8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.

OBSERVATION: An ancient proverb says, “live like a Roman in Rome.” If somebody tries to live differently, others will criticize or advise such a person to accept and follow the accepted practice of the land. If someone is firm to stick with his/her convictions and dare to stand alone to go against the common practice, people would say that such person is mad, who does not know how to live. People who lived around Daniel would have told such things about him when he became determined to refuse the royal food. Daniel and his friends were among the men chosen for the three years of special training to serve the king. Although these young Jewish men belonged to the royal and noble families, at that time, they were exiles and had no power. However, Daniel “resolved not to defile himself” with the food from king Nebuchadnezzar. We should remember that this bold decision was not just for one day. So, the fear of Ashpenaz, the chief of the emperor’s court official, is understandable. But God “caused the official to show favor” to Daniel. When we make godly decisions and face questions of fear and the future, God helps us accomplish our godly pursuits.

Throughout the Bible, we read many such godly men and women of God who were determined not to defile themselves by the world. They refused to compromise their godly life and received God’s favor and strength to overcome all the trials of their life. For example, Joseph said, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Gen.39:9). In Hebrews 11, we see a list of great people of God who lived by faith. When a friend of D.L. Moody told him, “It remains to be seen what God will do with a man who gives himself up wholly to Him,” he resolved to himself to be such a man to live for God. History tells us what God did through Moody. In our lives, we may face various temptations and situations that could lead us to compromise our Christian values. Such times, as John MacArthur says, “Don’t compromise and let God take your life and do with it as He pleases, and it may it be ten times greater than the life of anyone in this world.” God did not forsake Daniel and his friends. They were “healthier and better nourished” than any others. We should not conform to the pattern of this world (Rom.12:2). When we make a decision to honor God and his word, he gives us the strength to do it. Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God” (Luke 18:27).

APPLICATION: I can live for God and pursue a godly life even when I live in unfriendly environments. The one who is in me is greater than the one who is in the world (1 Jn.4:4). When I remain in Christ, and his words remain in me, he enables me to be fruitful (Jn.15:7-8). Holy Spirit gives me the power to overcome the temptations of the world (Gal.5:16). “The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Gal.2:20).

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for your grace and power to live for you in the ungodly world. Jesus, thank you for overcoming the world for us.  Holy Spirit, fill me with your power to be a witness of Christ everywhere and every day. Amen.

இரட்சிப்பில் வளருதல்

வேத வசனம்: 1 பேதுரு 2: 1. இப்படியிருக்க, கர்த்தர் தயையுள்ளவரென்பதை நீங்கள் ருசிபார்த்ததுண்டானால்,
2. சகல துர்க்குணத்தையும், சகலவித கபடத்தையும், வஞ்சகங்களையும், பொறாமைகளையும், சகலவித புறங்கூறுதலையும் ஒழித்துவிட்டு,
3. நீங்கள் வளரும்படி, புதிதாய்ப் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளைப்போல, திருவசனமாகிய களங்கமில்லாத ஞானப்பாலின்மேல் வாஞ்சையாயிருங்கள்.

கவனித்தல்: மனித வளர்ச்சி என்பது பிறப்பிற்கும் முதிர்ச்சி அடைதலுக்கும் இடையே படிப்படியாக நடைபெறுகிற ஒரு காரியம் ஆகும். ஒரு குழந்தை வளரும்போது,  அதன் மரபியல், ஊட்டச்சத்து மற்றும் வளரும் சூழ்நிலை ஆகியவைகளைப் பொறுத்து நிலையான மற்றும் ஒருபோதும் பின்னோக்கிச் செல்ல முடியாத வளர்ச்சியை உடையதாக வளருகிறது. குழந்தைப் பருவம் மற்றும் பதின்ம வயதுப் பருவத்திற் இடையே ஒரு பிள்ளை வளருகிற வேகமானது மிகவும் அதிகமாக இருக்கும். ஆயினும், ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட வயதை அடைந்த பிறகு மனித சரீரம் வளர்ச்சி அடைவதில்லை. மனிதனுடைய ஆவிக்குரிய வாழ்க்கை மற்றும் வளர்ச்சியும்  மனித சரீர வளர்ச்சியுடன் பல ஒற்றுமைகளையும் தனித்துவமான வித்தியாசங்களையும் கொண்ட ஒரு தனித்துவமான ஒரு காரியம் ஆகும்.  இங்கே, " சத்தியத்திற்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்து" தங்களைத் சுத்திகரித்துக் கொண்டு ”என்றென்றைக்கும் நிற்கிறதும் ஜீவனுள்ளதுமான தேவவசனமாகிய அழிவில்லாத வித்தினாலே” மறுபிறப்பின் அனுபவத்தைப் பெற்றவர்களுக்கு அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பேதுரு எழுதுகிறார் (1 பேதுரு 1: 22-23). ஒரு குழந்தைக்கு வளர்ச்சி தேவையானதாக இருப்பது போல, இந்த கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் தங்கள் ஆன்மீக வாழ்க்கையில் வளர வேண்டும்.

ஆகவே, “சகல துர்க்குணத்தையும், சகலவித கபடத்தையும், வஞ்சகங்களையும், பொறாமைகளையும், சகலவித புறங்கூறுதலையும்” விட்டு விடுங்கள் என்று பவுல் அவர்களுக்கு அறிவுரை கூறுகிறார். தேவ பக்தியற்ற இக்காரியங்கள் ஒரு கிறிஸ்தவனின் வாழ்வில் இருக்க தகுதியற்றவை. அதன் பின், ஒருவரின் ஆவ்க்க்குரிய வளர்ச்சிக்கு ”களங்கமில்லாத திருவசனமாகிய ஞானப்பால்” அவசியம் எனக் கூறுகிறார். புதிதாய் பிறந்த குழந்தைகளைப் போல, கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையின் மேல் வாஞ்சையாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.   நாம் மிகவும் விரும்பும் எந்த உணவையும் விட தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையானது மிகவும் விரும்பத்தக்கதும், பலனுள்ளதும் ஆகும். ஒரு குழந்தை உணவு உண்ண மறுக்கும் போது, சிறிதளவு உணவை அந்த குழந்தையின் வாயில் வைத்து உணவை சாப்பிட்டுப் பார்க்கும்படி ஒரு தாய் செய்வார். இங்கே, தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையை விசுவாசிகள் வாஞ்சிக்க வேண்டும் என உற்சாகப்படுத்துவதற்காக அக்காட்சியை பேதுரு இங்கு நம் முன் வைக்கிறார். கர்த்தவர் நல்லவர் என்பதை அவர்கள் ருசி பார்த்திருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதை அவர்களுக்கு நினைவுபடுத்துகிறார்.  மனித சரீர வளர்ச்சியைப் போலல்லாது, நம் வயது என்னவாக இருந்தாலும், கிறிஸ்துவில் நம் ஆன்மீக வாழ்வில் நாம் தொடர்ந்து வளர முடியும்.

கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுவை தங்கள் இரட்சகராக ஏற்றுக் கொண்ட பின்னர் எதுவுமே செய்யத் தேவையில்லை என்று பல கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் நினைக்கின்றனர். நம் இரட்சிப்பில் நிலைத்திருக்கவும், வளரவும், தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையால் நம் ஆன்மீக வாழ்க்கையை போஷித்து, வளப்படுத்த வேண்டும். பின்வரும் கேள்விகளைக் கேட்டு நம்மை நாமே ஆராய்ந்து பார்ப்போமாக: நம் ஆன்மீக, கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்வில் வளருகிறோமா? தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையை மிகவும் விருப்பத்துடன் வாஞ்சிக்கிறோமா? தேவனுடைய வார்த்தைக்கு நாம் உரிய இடம் கொடுக்கவில்லை எனில், நம் கிறிஸ்தவ ஆன்மீக வாழ்வில் எந்தவிதமான வளர்ச்சியும் இருக்காது. “பாவமானது வேதாகமத்தில் இருந்து உங்களை விலக்கி வைக்கும், இல்லையேல் இந்தப் புத்தகம் பாவத்தில் இருந்து உங்களை விலக்கிப் பாதுகாக்கும்” என ஜான் பன்யன் கூறுகிறார்.  அனேக கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையினால் பலப்படுத்தப் படாதபடியினாலேயே, உலகப் பிரகாரமான சோதனைகளுக்கு எதிராக எதிர்த்து நிற்க முடியாமல் வீழ்ந்து விடுகிறார்கள். நாம் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையை வாஞ்சித்து அனுதினமும் அதை வாசித்து, அது நமக்குத் தரும் ஊட்டத்தில்  நாம் வளருகிறோமா? நம்மை நாமே ஆராய்ந்து, சரிசெய்து கொள்வோம்.

பயன்பாடு:  தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையானது என் மனதைப் புதிதாக்கி, என் ஆத்துமாவிற்கு புத்துணர்ச்சியை அளிக்கிறது. தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையானது என்னை எச்சரித்து, பாவம் செய்யாதபடிக்கு என்னைப் பாதுகாக்கிறது. தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையானது பிசாசுக்கு எதிராக நிற்பதற்கு எனக்கு பலத்தைத் தருகிறது; அது ஆவியின் பட்டயம் ஆகும். அனுதினமும், நான் என் ஆவிக்குரிய வாழ்வில் வளர, வாழ தேவனுடைய வார்த்தை எனக்கு அவசியம் தேவை. நான் தினமும் வேதத்தை வாசித்து, தியானித்து, அது சொல்கிறபடி வாழ்வேன்.

Day – 329

Growing in Salvation

READ: Ezekiel 47,48; Psalms 146; 1 Peter 2

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 2: 1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.
2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,
3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

OBSERVATION: Human growth is a progressive process that takes place between birth and maturity. As a baby grows, it has constant and irreversible growth, depending on genetic, nutritional, and environmental factors. A child’s growth velocity is maximum during infancy and adolescence. However, the human body does not grow after attaining a certain age. Human spiritual life and growth is also a process with many similarities and unique differences from human growth. Here, Apostle Peter writes to those who were born again “through the living and enduring word of God,” those who purified themselves by “obeying the truth” (1 Peter 1: 22-23). Like a baby requires growth, these Christians must grow in their spiritual lives.

“Therefore,” Peter exhorts them to get rid of “all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.” These ungodly things are unworthy to be in a Christian’s life. Then, Peter says that pure spiritual milk is necessary for a person’s spiritual growth. Here, “pure spiritual milk” refers to the unadulterated and undiluted word of God. Christians should “crave” for the word of God, “like newborn babies.” The word of God is more desirable and beneficial than any food that we like it most. When a child refuses to eat, a mother will make the child taste the food by putting a small quantity in its mouth. Peter brings the same scene here to encourage the new Christians to desire the Word of God; he reminds them they have tasted that the Lord is good. Unlike human growth, whatever our age may be, we can continue to grow in our spiritual lives in Christ.

Many Christians think that they do not need to do anything after they have accepted the Lord Jesus as their savior. To remain and grow in our salvation, we must nourish and enrich our spiritual lives with the Word of God. Let us examine ourselves: Do we grow in our spiritual lives? Do we crave for the Word of God?  There will be no growth in our Christian spiritual lives if we do not give the proper place for the Word of God. John Bunyan says, “Sin will keep you from this book, or this book will keep you from sin.” Many Christians are not able to stand against worldly temptations because they are not strengthened by the Word of God. Do we read and crave for the Word of God every day and grow in the nourishment it gives us? Let us discern and correct ourselves.

APPLICATION: The Word of God renews my mind and refreshes my soul. God’s word warns me and protects me from sinning. The Word of God gives me the strength to stand against evil; it is the sword of the Spirit. Every day, I need God’s word to live and grow in my spiritual life. I will read, meditate on God’s word, and put it into practice.

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for the Bible, which is the infallible, soul-refreshing Word of God that answers all my questions. Jesus, help me to hear your words every day and live accordingly.  Holy Spirit, give me your strength and wisdom to remain and grow in my spiritual life by the power of the Word of God today and always. Amen.

நம் நம்பிக்கை ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை

வாசிக்க: எசேக்கியேல் 45,46; சங்கீதம் 145; 1 பேதுரு 1

வேத வசனம்:  1 பேதுரு 1: 3. நம்முடைய கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் பிதாவாகிய தேவனுக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் உண்டாவதாக;
4. அவர், இயேசுகிறிஸ்து மரித்தோரிலிருந்து எழுந்ததினாலே, அழியாததும் மாசற்றதும் வாடாததுமாகிய சுதந்தரத்திற்கேதுவாக, ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை உண்டாகும்படி, தமது மிகுந்த இரக்கத்தின்படியே நம்மை மறுபடியும் ஜெநிப்பித்தார்.

கவனித்தல்: ”நம்பிக்கைதான் வாழ்க்கை; நம்பிக்கை இல்லாமல் எவரும் இந்த உலகத்தில் வாழமுடியாது” என்று மக்கள் சொல்வதை அடிக்கடி நாம் கேட்கிறோம். எந்தவிதமான நிச்சயமுமின்றி, ஒரு காரியம் நடைபெறவேண்டும் அல்லது உண்மையாக வேண்டும் என மக்கள் விரும்புகின்றனர் மற்றும் எதிர்பார்க்கின்றனர். ஆனால், வேதாகமம் கூறும் நம்பிக்கை உலகத்தில் இருந்து நாம் கேட்கும் நம்பிக்கை பற்றிய கருத்து அல்லது அர்த்தத்தில்  இருந்து வித்தியாசனமானது ஆகும்.  உலகப்பிரகாரமான நம்பிக்கையானது, “நிச்சயமில்லாத நன்மை” ஆக இருக்கையில், வேதாகம நம்பிக்கையானது ஜான் பிளன்சர்ட் சொல்வது போல, “நிபந்தனையற்ற நிச்சயத்தன்மை உடையதாக” இருக்கிறது. ”நம்பிக்கை என்பது கிறிஸ்தவ விசுவாசத்திற்கு ஒத்த கருத்துடையதாக இருக்கிறது; ஏனெனில் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை ஆண்டவரும் இரட்சகருமாக ஏற்றுக் கொள்வதற்கான விசுவாசிகளின் நோக்கமானது நரகத்துக்கு தப்பி நித்திய மகிமைக்கும் பிரவேசிப்பதைப் பற்றிய எதிர்பார்ப்பாக இருக்கிறது” என்று  ஜான் மெக்ஆர்தர் என்பவர் எழுதுகிறார்.  அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பேதுரு எழுதிய முதலாவது நிருபத்தில், நம்பிக்கை என்பது பாடுகளின் மத்தியில் இருக்கிற கிறிஸ்தவர்களுக்கு நினைவுபடுத்தும் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஒரு கருப்பொருளாக இருக்கிறது. சில அறிஞர்கள் பேதுருவின் முதலாவது நிருபத்தை நம்பிக்கையின் கடிதம் என அழைக்கின்றனர். இங்கு  மறுபடியும் பிறந்த அனுபவத்தைப் பெற்ற ஒவ்வொரு கிறிஸ்தவருக்கும் இருக்கும் ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை பற்றி பேதுரு பேசுகிறார். நம் இரட்சிப்பு, கிறிஸ்துவில் மறுபிறப்பு தேவன் நமக்குத் தரும் பரிசு ஆகும். ”ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை உண்டாகும்படி, தமது மிகுந்த இரக்கத்தின்படியே நம்மை மறுபடியும் ஜெநிப்பித்தார்” என்று பேதுரு கூறுகிறார். அப்போஸ்தலனாகிய பவுல் சொல்வது போல, நாம் “அக்கிரமங்களினாலும் பாவங்களினாலும்” மரித்துப் போனவர்களாகவும், ”சுபாவத்தினாலே மற்றவர்களைப்போலக் கோபாக்கினையின் பிள்ளைகளாயிருந்தோம்: (எபே.2:1-5). ஒரு காலத்தில், நாம் “நம்பிக்கையில்லாதவர்களும், இவ்வுலகத்தில் தேவனற்றவர்களுமாக” இருந்தோம் (எபே.2:12). ஆனால், இப்பொழுதோ கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவில் ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை உடையவர்களாக இருக்கிறோம்.

இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மீதான நம் விசுவாசமே நம் நம்பிக்கையின் அஸ்திபாரமாக இருக்கிறது. ஒரு பாமாலைப் பாடலில் உள்ளது போல, நாம் உறுதியான கற்பாறையாகிய கிறிஸ்துவின் மீது நிற்கிறோம், மற்ற நிலமனைத்தும் புதைமணலே ஆகும். இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் உயிர்த்தெழுதல் நம் விசுவாசத்தின் அஸ்திபாரம் ஆகும். நம் ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கையும் கிறிஸ்தவ விசுவாசமும் ஒன்றொடொன்று தொடர்புடையதும், பிரிக்க முடியாததும் ஆகும். உலகப் பிரகாரமான சுதந்திரம் நிலையானது அல்ல; அது பூச்சியினாலும் துருப்பிடிப்பதினாலும் அழிந்தும், மற்றவர்களால் திருடப்பட்டும் போகலாம் (மத். 6:19). ஆனால் நம் புது பிறப்பு அல்லது மறுபிறப்பின் அனுபவமானது ஒருபோதும் ”அழியாததும் மாசற்றதும் வாடாததுமாகிய” சுதந்திரத்தைப் பெற நம்மை நடத்துகிறது. கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் நமக்கு இருக்கும் சுதந்திரம் நித்தியமானது ஆகும். தேவன் நமக்காக அதைப் பாதுகாத்து வைத்திருக்கிறார். நாம் மறுபடியும் பிறக்கும்போது, தேவனுடைய பிள்ளைகளாகவும், தேவனுக்கு சுதந்திரராகவும் ஆகிறோம் (ரோமர் 8:14-17). நாம் தேவனுடைய பிள்ளைகள் என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்ளும்போது, தேவனைத் துதிப்பதுதான் நம் இயல்பான பதிலாக இருக்கும். ஏனெனில் அது தகுதியில்லாத நமக்கு தேவன் அருளும் கிருபையின் பரிசு ஆகும். ”நம்முடைய கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் பிதாவாகிய தேவனுக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் உண்டாவதாக” என்று சொல்லும்போது, பேதுரு அதையே செய்கிறார், இயேசுவே நம் நம்பிக்கை (1 தீமோ.1:1); அவர் மூலமாக நாம் ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை உடையவர்களாக இருக்கிறோம்; இயேசுவின் இரண்டாவது வருகையானது அனைத்து கிறிஸ்தவர்களும் விரும்புகிற ஆனந்த பாக்கியம் (ஆசீர்வாதமான நம்பிக்கை) ஆகும் (தீத்து 2:13). காம்பஸ் குருசேட் அமைப்பின் நிறுவனர் பில் பிரைட் அவர்கள் சொல்வது போல, ”தேவனுடன் இருக்கும்போது, வாழ்க்கையானது முடிவிலா நம்பிக்கை உடையதாக இருக்கிறது. தேவன் இல்லை எனில், வாழ்க்கையானது நம்பிக்கையற்ற முடிவாக இருக்கிறது.” நாம் நம் வாழ்வில் இப்படிப்பட்ட ஆசீர்வாதமான ஜீவ நம்பிக்கை உடையவர்களாக இருக்கிறோமா? இது மனிதனுக்கு தேவன் கொடுத்த அற்புதப் பரிசு ஆகும். வெற்றிகரமாக கிறிஸ்தவ வாழ்விற்கு இந்த ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை நமக்கு உதவுகிறது.

பயன்பாடு: கிறிஸ்துவில் நான் ஒரு புதிய வாழ்வை உடையவனாக இருக்கிறேன். நம்புகிறதற்கு ஏதும் இல்லாதிருந்தும் நம்புவதற்கு தேவன் மேல் உள்ள என் விசுவாசம் என்னைப் பலப்படுத்துகிறது. தேவன் எனக்குத் தந்திருக்கிற ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கையானது அவருடைய மகிமைக்காக வாழ எனக்கு உதவுகிறது. பரலோகத்தில் தேவன் எனக்காக பாதுகாத்து வைத்திருக்கிற நித்திய பரிசைப் பெற நான் அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்.  கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் என் நம்பிக்கை இருக்கிறது. கிறிஸ்துவானவர் மகிமையின் நம்பிக்கையாக எனக்குள் இருக்கிறார் (கொலோ.1:27).

ஜெபம்: கிருபையும் இரக்கமுமுள்ள தேவனே, நீர் எனக்குக் காண்பித்திருக்கிற மாபெரும் இரக்கத்திற்காக உமக்கு நன்றி. நீர் எனக்குத் தந்திருக்கிற புதிய வாழ்க்கை, ஜீவனுள்ள நம்பிக்கை, மற்றும் நித்திய சுதந்திரம் ஆகிய உம் பரிசுக்காக உம்மைத் துதிக்கிறேன். கர்த்தாவே, என் விசுவாசத்தை உறுதியாகப் பற்றிப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு, முடிவு வரை விசுவாசத்தில் நிலைத்திருக்க எனக்கு உதவியருளும். ஆமென்.

Our hope is Living Hope

READ: Ezekiel 45,46; Psalms 145; 1 Peter 1

SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 1: 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you

OBSERVATION: We often hear people say that “hope is life; without hope, nobody can live in this world.” Without any assurance, people want and expect something to happen or be true. But, biblical hope is different from the meaning or idea of hope that we hear from the world. While worldly hope is “an uncertain good,” Biblical hope is, as John Blanchard says, “an unconditional certainty.” John MacArthur writes, “Hope is synonymous with the Christian faith because the motive for believers’ embracing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is their anticipation of escaping hell and entering eternal glory.” In the first epistle of Apostle Peter, hope is a significant theme that he reminds the suffering Christians. Some scholars call 1 Peter is a letter of hope. Here, Peter speaks about the living hope of every Christian who is born again. Our salvation, new birth in Christ, is a gift of God. Peter says, “In his great mercy,” God “has given us new birth into a living hope.” As Paul says, we were dead in our “transgressions and sin” and “by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,  made us alive with Christ” (Eph.2:1-5). Once, we were “without hope and without God in the world” (Eph.2:12).  BUT NOW, we have a living hope in Christ Jesus.

 Our faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation for our hope. As a hymn goes, we stand on Christ, the solid rock, “all other ground is sinking sand.” Jesus Christ’s resurrection is the foundation for our Christian faith. Our living hope and Christian faith are inter-connected and inseparable. Worldly inheritance is not permanent; it can be destroyed by moths and vermin and stolen by others (Mt.6:19). But our new birth or born again experience leads us to receive “an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” Our inheritance in Christ is eternal, and God preserves it for us. When we are born again, we become the children of God and heirs of God (Rom.8:14-17). When we know that we are children of God, praising God will be our natural response, for it is God’s unmerited favor, grace Peter does the same when he says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!”Jesus is our hope (1 Tim.1:1); we have a living hope through him; Jesus’ second coming is the blessed hope for all believers (Tit.2:13). Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, says, “With God, life is an endless hope. Without God, life is a hopeless end.” Do we have this blessed living hope in our lives? It is God’s wonderful gift for humanity. The living hope helps us to live victorious Christian living. 

APPLICATION: I have a new life in Christ. My faith in God enables me to hope against all hopes. The living hope that God has given me helps me to live for his glory. I am called to receive the eternal reward that God has kept safe for me in heaven. My hope is in Christ; Christ in me is “the hope of glory” (Col.1:27).

PRAYER: Gracious and compassionate God, thank you for the great mercy you have shown me. I praise you for your gift of a new life, living hope, eternal inheritance. Lord, help me to hold my faith and living hope firmly and stand firm in it till the end. Amen.

எல்லா காலத்திற்கும் ஏற்ற ஒரு வார்த்தை

வேத வசனம்: யாக்கோபு 5: 13. உங்களில் ஒருவன் துன்பப்பட்டால் ஜெபம்பண்ணக்கடவன்; ஒருவன் மகிழ்ச்சியாயிருந்தால் சங்கீதம் பாடக்கடவன்.

கவனித்தல்:   ”நான் இதைச் செய்திருந்தால், நான் அதைத் தவிர்த்திருக்கலாம் அல்லது அதைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டிருப்பேன்” என்று நடக்காத விஷயத்தைப் பற்றி சிலர் பேசுவதுண்டு. சிலர் தங்கள் கடந்த காலத்தில் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர்; தங்களுடைய கடந்த கால சிறப்பான வாழ்க்கையை நினைத்து அல்லது கடந்த கால தோல்விகளை நினைத்து வருந்தி வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். கடந்த காலத்தில்  முடிந்து போனவைகள் முடிந்து போனவைதான்; அவைகளை நாம் மாற்ற முடியாது என்பதை நாம் நினைவில் கொள்ள வேண்டும். நாம் நிகழ் காலத்தில் வாழ்கிறவர்களாக இருந்து, எதிர்காலத்திற்காக நம்மை ஆயத்தம் செய்கிறவர்களாக வாழ வேண்டும். யாக்கோபு 5ஆம் அதிகாரத்தில், நிகழ்காலத்தில் வாழ்வதற்கான சில நடைமுறை ஆலோசனைகளை நாம் காண்கிறோம்.  யாக்கோபு சில எளிய கேள்விகளைக் கேட்டு, அப்படிப்பட்ட சமயங்களில் நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் எனச் சொல்கிறார். ஒருவர் துன்ப்பபட்டால், அவர் உடனடியாக செய்ய வேண்டியது ஜெபம் ஆகும்.  யாக்கோபு 5:13இல், அது என்ன வகையான துன்பம் என யாக்கோபு குறிப்பிடவில்லை. அவருடைய காலத்தில், யூதக் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் தங்கள் கிறிஸ்தவ விசுவாசத்தினிமித்தம் அனேக உபத்திரவங்களையும், பாகுபாடுகளையும், மற்றும் அவமானங்களையும் எதிர் கொண்டனர்.  நாமும் நம் வாழ்வில் பலவிதமான துன்பங்களை எதிர்கொள்ள நேரிடலாம்.  அப்படிப்பட்ட சமயங்களில், நாம் ஜெபிக்கும்போது, நாம் தேவனைச் சார்ந்து இருக்கிறோம் என்பதையும், நம் துன்பத்தை ஜெயிக்க அவருடைய உதவியையும் வல்லமையையும் நாடுகிறோம் என்பதை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறோம்.

நாம் ஜெபிக்கும்போது, ”ஜெபத்தினால் சந்திக்கப்பட முடியாத தேவை மற்றும் ஜெபத்தினால் தீர்க்கப்பட முடியாத பிரச்சனை என்று எதுவும் இல்லை” என்று நாம் தேவன் மீது நம்பிக்கையாக இருக்க முடியும். யாக்கோபு 5:13 எழுதப்பட்ட சூழலைப் பார்க்கும்போது, யாக்கோபு 5:13-18 வரையிலான வசனங்களில் ஜெபமானது முக்கியமான கருப்பொருளாக இருப்பதை நாம் காண்கிறோம்.  இந்த வேதப் பகுதியின் ஒவ்வொரு வசனமும் ஜெபத்துடன் தொடர்புடையதாக இருக்கிறது. யூசிபியஸ் என்ற மூன்றாவது நூற்றாண்டைச் சேர்ந்த கிறிஸ்தவ தலைவர் யாக்கோபு எப்பொழுதும் ஜெபிக்கும் மனிதராக, ஜெபத்தின் வல்லமையை விசுவாசித்த ஒருவராக வாழ்ந்தார் என எழுதுகிறார். முழங்காலில் நீண்ட நேரன் நின்று மக்களுக்காக அவர் ஜெபித்ததை  அனைவரும் அறிந்திருந்தனர். அவருடைய முழங்கால்களில் ஒட்டகத்திற்கு இருப்பது போல காய்ப்பு இருந்தது. ஆகவே மக்கள் அவரை ”ஒட்டகத்தின் முழங்கால்களை உடைய மனிதர்” என அழைத்தனர்.  யாக்கோபு தன் வாழ்வில் கைக்கொண்டு வந்தவைகளில் இருந்து ஜெபம் செய்ய உற்சாகப்படுத்தி எழுதுகிறார்.

ஒருவர் மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கும்போது, சங்கீதம் பாட யாக்கோபு அழைக்கிறார். நாம் துன்பப்பட்டாலும், ஆசீர்வாதமாக இருந்தாலும், நாம் ஜெபம் மற்றும் துதிப் பாடல் மூலமாக தேவனிடம் செல்ல முடியும். நம்மை ஆசீர்வதிக்கிற தேவனை நாம் மறந்துவிடக் கூடாது.  ஸ்டீவன் ஜே. கோல் என்பவர் சொல்வது போல, “நம் வாழ்வில் பாடுகள் அல்லது நிறைவான ஆசீர்வாதங்கள் என எவை இருந்தாலும், அது தேவனை நோக்கியதாக, தேவனைச் சார்ந்ததாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.” யாக்கோபு 1:2,3இல், ”என் சகோதரரே, நீங்கள் பலவிதமான சோதனைகளில் அகப்படும்போது… அதை மிகுந்த சந்தோஷமாக எண்ணுங்கள்” என்று யாக்கோபு எழுதுகிறார். “பாடுபடுகிறவருக்கும் உற்சாகமாக இருக்கிறவருக்கும் யாக்கோபு கூறும் ஒரே அறிவுரை ”அதைக் கர்த்தரித்தில் எடுத்துச் செல் என்பதே. உண்மையைச் சொல்வதானால், இந்த இரண்டு கட்டளைகளையும் மாற்றிச் சொல்ல முடியும்: பாடுபடுகிறவர்கள் ஜெபிக்கவும், மகிழ்ச்சியாக இருக்கிறவர்கள் பாடவும் வேண்டும்” என பாஸ்டர் டேவிட் கூஜிக் எழுதுகிறார். நம் வாழ்வின் நிகழ்கால சூழ்நிலைகள் என்னவாக இருந்தாலும், நாம் எல்லாவற்றிற்காகவும் தேவனிடம் ஜெபித்து  அவரைத் துதிக்க முடியும்

பயன்பாடு:  நான் என் வாழ்வில் பிரச்சனைகளைச் சந்திக்கும்போதெல்லாம், மற்றவர்களின் உதவியைத் தேடுவதற்கு முன்பு, ஜெபத்தில் தேவனுடைய உதவியை நான் தேட வேண்டும்.   நான் ஜெபிக்கும்போது, நான் எதிர்கொள்கிற பிரச்சனையை கடந்து செல்கிறதற்கான வலிமையை கண்டு கொள்கிறேன். நான் தேவனுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்து அவருடைய சித்தத்தைச் செய்ய என்னை ஒப்புக் கொடுக்கிறேன்.  நான் ஜெபித்து, தேவனைத் துதிக்கும்போது, என் கவனத்தை தேவனிடம் திருப்புகிறேன்; என் சூழ்நிலைகள் அல்ல, அவர் என் மகிழ்ச்சியின் ஆதாரமாக மாறுகிறார்.

Day – 327

A word for all seasons

READ: Ezekiel 43,44; Psalms 144; James 5

SCRIPTURE: James 5: 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.

OBSERVATION: Some people say about something that did not happen by saying, “If I had done this, I would have avoided or received this.” Some people live in their past; they either live in their past glory or regret their past failures. We must remember that what is past is past; we cannot change it. We must live in the present and prepare ourselves for the future. In James 5, we see some practical suggestions to live in our present. James asks some simple questions and tells us what should be done in such situations. When a person is in trouble, his immediate response should be prayer. In Jam.5:13, James does not mention what kind of trouble it is. The Jewish Christians of that time were facing persecution, discrimination, and humiliation for their Christian faith. We may face various troubles in our lives. At such times, when we pray, we express our reliance on God and seek his help and power to overcome our trouble.

As we pray, we can be confident in God that “there is no need that prayer cannot meet and no problem that prayer cannot solve.” When we read the context of James 5:13, we see that prayer is the key theme in James 5:13-18. Every verse of this passage says something about prayer. Eusebius, a third-century Christian leader, writes that James was a man of prayer who believed in the power of prayer. He was known for spending more time on his knees and praying for the people. His knees became calloused like a camel’s, so people called him “The man with Camel’s Knees.” James writes from what he practiced in his life.

 When a person is happy, James calls to “sing songs of praise.” Whether we suffer or prosper, we can go to God in prayer and praise. We should not forget our God who blesses us. As Steven J. Cole says, “all of life, whether suffering or sufficiency, should be lived with a God-ward, God-dependent focus.” In chapter 1, James writes, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (Jam.1:2). Pastor David Guzik says, “James has the same advice for both the suffering one and the cheerful one: take it all to the Lord. In fact, the two commands could be reversed: sufferers should sing also, and the cheerful should also pray.” Regardless of our present situation, we can pray and praise God for everything.

APPLICATION: Whenever I face troubles in my life before looking for help from others, I must remember to seek God in prayer. When I pray, I find the strength to go through the trouble I face; I submit myself to obey God and his will. When I pray and praise God, it turns my attention to God; he becomes the source of my strength and joy, not my present situation.

PRAYER: Father God, you are my “refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Ps.46:1). Lord, help me to seek you always and live under your care and power. Amen.

உமக்குப் பிரியமானதைச் செய்ய எனக்குப் போதித்தருளும்

வாசிக்க: எசேக்கியேல் 41,42; சங்கீதம் 143; யாக்கோபு 4

வேத வசனம்: சங்கீதம் 143: 10. உமக்குப் பிரியமானதைச் செய்ய எனக்குப் போதித்தருளும், நீரே என் தேவன்; உம்முடைய நல்ல ஆவி என்னைச் செம்மையான வழியிலே நடத்துவாராக.

கவனித்தல்:  மனம் திரும்புதலின் சங்கீதங்கள் (Penitential Psalms) அல்லது பாவ அறிக்கையின் சங்கீதங்களில் சங்கீதம் 143 ஏழாவதும் கடைசியுமானது ஆகும் (மற்றவை, சங்கீதம் 6;32;38;51;102;130). தாவீது தன் மகனாகிய அப்சலோம் தனக்கு விரோதமாகச் சதி செய்த போது அவனுக்குத் தப்பியோடிய போது இந்த சங்கீதத்தை எழுதினார் என சொல்லப்படுகிறது. இந்த ஜெப சங்கீதத்தில், தேவனுடைய சித்தத்தை அறிந்து கொள்வதற்காக தாவீது ஜெபிக்காமல், தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமானதைச் செய்ய போதித்தருளும்படி கர்த்தரிடம் அவர் கேட்கிறார். சங்கீதத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டிருக்கிறபடி, சங்கீதக்காரன் துயரத்திலும், தான் சந்தித்த பிரச்சனைகளில் இருந்து வெளிவர மிகவும் தீவிரமாக இருந்திருக்க வேண்டும்.  தாவீது மிகவும் சோர்ந்து போய், தான் முன்பு நன்றாக இருந்த நாட்கள் மறுபடியும் திரும்ப வரவேண்டும் என ஏங்குகிறார். அப்படிப்பட்ட ஒரு நிலையிலும், தன் வாழ்வில் தேவனுடைய சித்தத்தைச் செய்வதின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை அவர் உணர்ந்திருந்தார். நாம் மரண இருளின் பள்ளத்தாக்கினூடாக நடந்து செல்லும் போதும் கூட, தேவனுடைய சித்தத்தைச் செய்வதே நாம் செய்யக் கூடிய சிறந்த காரியமாக இருக்கிறது. நாம் தேவனுடைய சித்தத்தைச் செய்யும்போது, அவருடைய பலத்தையும் ஆறுதலையும் பெறுகிறோம். தாவீது இந்த உண்மையை நன்கறிந்திருந்தார். தாவீது தேவனுடனான தன் உறவைக் குறித்த நிச்சயமுள்ளவராகவும், தேவ சித்தத்தைச் செய்ய அவருக்கிருந்த இயலாமைகளையும் அறிந்திருந்தார். ஆகவே, “உமக்குப் பிரியமானதைச் செய்ய எனக்குப் போதித்தருளும்” என்று அவர் ஜெபித்தார்.

தேவனுடைய சித்தத்தைச்  செய்கிறதற்கு தாவீது தேவனை முற்றிலும் சார்ந்திருந்ததை அவர் ஜெபம் காண்பிக்கிறது. நாம் ஒரு குறைவுமின்றி தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமானவைகளைச் செய்ய தேவன் மட்டுமே நமக்கு உதவ முடியும். எனவே, தாவீது தேவ ஆவியின் வழிநடத்துலை நாடி ஜெபிக்கிறார். தேவன் அவரைச் செம்மையான வழிகளில் நடத்துவார் என அவர் நம்பினார். பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர் நடத்திச் செல்கிற பாதையானது ஆபத்துகள் இல்லாத பாதுகாப்பானதாக இருக்கும். தேவனுடைய சித்தம் இன்னதென்றும், எது சரி அல்லது தவறு என்றும் நம்மில் பலர் அறிந்திருக்கிறோம். ஆயினும், அவைகளை நம் வாழ்க்கையில் கைக்கொள்ளாமல் சாக்குப்போக்குகளையும்,  நம் பலவீனங்களைச் சொல்லி கொண்டு இருக்கிறோம். தாவீதைப் போல, நாமும் தேவன் தமக்குப் பிரியமானதை நமக்கு போதித்து, அதைச் செய்ய பலப்படுத்தியருளும்படி நாம் ஜெபிக்கலாம். ”சத்திய ஆவியானவர் வரும்போது” அவர் நம்மை சகல சத்தியத்திற்குள்ளும் வழிநடத்துகிறார் (யோவான் 16:13). பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர் ஒருபோதும் நம்மைத் தவறாக வழிநடத்துவதில்லை, ஏனெனில் அவர் தேவனுக்குரியவைகளை நன்கறிந்திருக்கிறார். நாம் எல்லாவற்றிலும் தேவனை நம்ப முடியும். நாம் நம் வாழ்க்கைப் பிரச்சனைகளால் சூழப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது, நம் யோசனைகளை பயன்படுத்தி அவைகளைச் சரி செய்வதற்குப் பதிலாக, நாம் தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமான சித்தம் இன்னதென்று உணர்ந்து, அதைச் செய்ய தேவன் நம்மை போதித்து வழிநடத்த நாம் அவரிடம் கேட்டு ஜெபிக்கலாம்.

பயன்பாடு: தேவன் என்னை எவ்விதமான ஆபத்துகளிலும் இருந்து காப்பாற்ற முடியும். தேவனைத் தேடி நாடுகிறவர்களுக்கு அவர் நல்லவராகவே இருக்கிறார். தேவன் அவருடைய சித்தத்தை எனக்குப் போதித்து, அதைச் செய்வதற்கு என்னைப் பலப்படுத்துகிறார். மனிதருக்குச் செவ்வையாக தோன்றுகிற வழிகள் மரணத்திற்கு வழிநடத்துகின்றன (நீதி.14:12). ஆனால் தேவன் ஜீவனுக்குள் என்னை வழிநடத்துகிறார். நான் தேவனுடைய போதனைக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்து, தேவ ஆவியானவரின் வழிநடத்துதலைப் பின்பற்றித் தொடரும்போது நான் தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமானதைச் செய்ய முடியும்.

ஜெபம்: தந்தையாகிய தெய்வமே, உம் கிருபைக்காகவும், மாறாத உம் வார்த்தைக்காகவும் நன்றி. கர்த்தாவே, உம் வழிகளை எனக்குப் போதித்து, உம் சித்தம் செய்ய என்னைப் பலப்படுத்தியருளும். பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவரே, தேவ சித்தம் செய்ய நான் உம்மைச் சார்ந்து இருக்கிறேன்; நான் அனுதினமும் தேவனுக்குப் பிரியமானவைகளைச் செய்யவும் தேவ வார்த்தையின்படி வாழவும் என்னை வழிநடத்தியருளும். ஆமென்.

Day – 326

Teach me to do your will

READ: Ezekiel 41,42; Psalms 143; James 4

SCRIPTURE: Psalms 143: 10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

OBSERVATION: Psalm 143 is the last of seven Penitential Psalms or Psalms of Confession (the others being Ps.6;32;38;51;102;130). It is said that David wrote this psalm when he fled from his son Absalom who conspired against him. In this prayer psalm, David was not praying to know God’s will but asked the Lord to teach him to do God’s will. As indicated in the psalm, the psalmist must have been in distress and was desperate to come out of the problems he faced. David was dismayed and longing for the return of good old days and deliverance from the Lord. Even in such a situation, he understood the importance of doing God’s will in his life. Though we walk through “the valley of the shadow of death,” submitting ourselves to do God’s will is the best thing we can do. We can find God’s comfort and strength in doing his will. David knew this truth well. David was confident about his relationship with God and knew his inabilities to do God’s will. So he prayed, “Teach me to do your will.”

David’s prayer shows his dependence on God in doing God’s will. God alone can help us to do his will without any lapse. Then David asked for the guidance of the Spirit of God. He trusted God would lead him on “level ground.” The place where the Holy Spirit guides will be free from any dangers. Many of us already know God’s will and what is right or wrong. However, we fail to practice it in our lives by saying excuses and citing our weaknesses. Like David, we too can ask the Lord to teach and enable us to do his will. When “the Spirit of truth comes,” he guides us into all the truth (Jn.16:13). The Holy Spirit never misleads us, for he knows the thoughts of God. We can trust God in everything. When we are surrounded by many issues of our lives, instead of trying our ideas to solve them, we can seek God’s will and ask God to give us his instruction and guidance to fulfill it.

APPLICATION: God can rescue me from any dangers. The Lord is good to those who seek and trust him. God teaches and trains me to do his will. Human ways that “appear to be right” lead to death (Pro.14;12), but God guides me to life. I can do God’s will by obeying his instruction and following the guidance of the Spirit of God.

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for your unfailing love and unchanging word. Lord, teach me your ways and strengthen me to do your will. Holy Spirit, I depend on you to do God’s will; lead me every day to do God’s will and live according to his word. Amen.
