Living with the mindset of Christ

READ: Jeremiah 7,8; Psalms 99; Philippians 2

SCRIPTURE: Philippians 2: 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.

OBSERVATION: People say, “A man is just as he thinks about himself.” The mind of a person plays a significant role in his/her life. By nature, the human mind has both selfish and pro-social traits. However, we see more selfish people than good and unselfish people. Depending on the characteristics people choose, their mind works, and their life reflects it. In Philippians 2, we see one of the significant Christological passages of the Bible that helps us to understand Jesus’ incarnation. Phil.2:6-11 tells us of Jesus’ preexistence, incarnation, and his exaltation by God the Father. After Paul writes about how a Christian should not live, he refers to Jesus’ life of self-sacrificing humility for illustrative purpose. In Jesus, we see the perfect example of how a man should live humbly for the benefit of others.

Romans 12:2 clearly tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” In Rom.8:29, Paul says, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” In Philippians 2, we are commanded to live without any selfish motives and for others. Having the same mindset of Christ Jesus is a command for every Christian, not an optional one. As a child of God, with loving obedience to his word, we choose to reflect the mindset of Christ Jesus to others. Christ’s humility teaches us a lot about the biblical Christian life. Once a Christian asked, “what are the steps to go to heaven.” He saw the word “HUMILITY” is inscribed on each step to heaven. When we have the mindset of Christ, the world will see nothing but Christ in us.  A Christian beautifully says, “Christ showed His love by dying for us; we show our love by living for Him.”

APPLICATION: As I live for Christ, I should not have “selfish ambition or vain conceit.” As a Christian, I should give myself to be conformed to the image of God. I will arm myself with Christ’s attitude (1 Pet.4:1). “I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal.2:20). I will spread the aroma of the knowledge of Jesus Christ everywhere through my words and deeds.

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for choosing me to be your child to have the mindset of Christ.  Holy Spirit, renew my mind to live with the same attitude of Christ. Amen.
