READ: 1 Samuel 25,26; Psalm 129; Luke 21:20-38
SCRIPTURE: Luke 21: 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
OBSERVATION: In Luke 21, Jesus says about signs of the end of the world such as deceptions, wars, disasters, famines, spread of diseases etc. These signs are warning us to keep ourselves safe from "all that is about to happen." When the world sees these signs, people will be panicked of the possible outcomes of these events in their life. However, Jesus warns his followers that they should not to be like the worldly people with worries of life. Although the end time events will come upon all people of the world, those who believe in Jesus are expected to "be always on the watch, and pray." When we see the latest news and hear what is going on in the world, we often perplexed and worried that how would it end. But Jesus says that prayer is the key to escape from all such distressing things. Through prayer, God gives us the required strength to manage the present situation and to come out of it. Moreover, our prayer during this time enables us to stand before the Son of Man. How encouraging is it! isn't it? It would be better to pray to God than worrying for everything in our life. When we hear news about any of the end time signs (for e.g. Pestilence - the spread of a deadly disease), do we pray?
APPLICATION: All that is happening around the world indicates that the end of the world is near. During this time, I should live according to my Lord Jesus' expectation. He does not expect great things from me. Instead of fearing about life, I should spend my time in prayer, not once in a while but always. I need to trust and obey Jesus. Trusting Jesus gives me a great hope to live for him in any situation. So, I will "be always on the watch, and pray."
